Zhang Ailing and Pearl Buck, activated on Chinese in-land literature stage at nearly the same time, are both the famous female writers with cross culture background. Although the two talented women belonged to different race, they both rooted literarily in China, and identified themselves with Chinese complex. Meanwhile, they were both good at describing females through the culture conflicts between east and west, tradition and modern, and revealing their cultural psychology through marriage and family. The difference of their art thinking orientation was that Zhang focused on displaying human's "vulnerability and gloom" and spiritual dislocation under cultural conflicts, while Pearl Buck tended to display the positive aspects and traditional virtues beneath cultural conflicts and find out understanding and integrity of different culture. The differences of their female writing exist firstly in their creation of mother images. Zhang Ailing modeled two kinds of "evil mother", either abnormally possessed their children in a viciously way, or standed by and made no efforts to save their endangered children. Yet Peal Buck portrayed the image of "earth mother" who embraced the broad mind and firm spirit, and presented the universal fraternity transformed from the responsibility. Secondly, the wives images in both Zhang Ailing's and Peal Buck's novels are characterized by "prison wife" and "dutiful wife" respectively. The "prison wives" exposed by Zhang Ailing are afflicted in the prison of marriage for living. Occasionally there were few "breaking the prison of marriage" just for love. However the latter one showed more firm females when wording the wife image. Most of them were persistent and dauntless in silence, or the anti-traditional women in awakening. What's more, their different landscapes of female writing also existed in the description of female relationships. Differing from fighting against each other for somebody'favor or for living, the slaughters often occur in families. While owing to self-consciousness and universal fraternity in western culture, Pearl Buck, though concerned on old story yet, formed a new one in which the wife and concubine improved and assisted each other. To some degree, the discrepancy above came from the different experiences in their childhood and marriage. Zhang Ailing's incomplete childhood and the low marriage with Hu Lancheng contributed to the abnormal affectionate feeling and the incorrect marriage in her novels. But Pearl Buck who had the same destiny formed a universal fraternity resulting in her broad eyesight on cross-culture and the approval about the dual-cultural system, and finally set up a rather available way about female's living in her works.
