Based on the analysis of the current teaching and American students status of the Chinese schools in San Francisco Bay Area this paper focuses on discussions of some important issues of Chinese vocabulary teaching, including relationship between the vocabulary teaching and Pinyin, between the vocabulary teaching and grammar, between vocabulary teaching and cultural introduction, and between literacy and vocabulary teaching. This article also discusses American Chinese school textbooks. Through her own teaching experiences and the application of second language acquisition theory the author puts forward her own ideas on the aforesaid issues for discussions.
