In recent years, audience of TV drama has been distracted by the internet new media. The big issue that scholars are facing today is making better use of the global new media platform for cross-cultural communication in this network new media, a more selective and interactive media platform. As an art of sound and picture, the acceptable visual image of TV drama decides that TV drama plays an important role in cross-cultural communication. In a world of information globalization and cultural diversification, especially on the platform of network new media, analyzing the development of TV drama from the aspect of communication is a significant research topic.The paper concerns about the art form of TV drama. From the aspect of cross-cultural communication, the author takes the American TV drama Prison Break as the research object and analyzes the situation that American TV drama spreads in China. The author is trying to find out the reason why American TV drama can raise the echo of audiences from different cultural background. Hopefully, the paper could provide some reference for Chinese TV drama on how to better base on the local and face to the world. The basic view of the paper is studying TV drama communication from the prospect of cross-cultural communication. The aim of the paper is to analyze the American television text and its way of communication under certain situation to sum up cross-cultural communication factors of high quality TV drama in order to help Chinese TV drama better stay on the local and step onto the world, making Chinese high quality TV drama better make its cross-cultural communication and enhancing our culture as the well-known "soft power".The paper has four chapters, namely, the basic general situation where American TV drama experiences its cross-cultural communication in China, taking Prison Break as an example to analyze the reason of American TV drama realizing its cross-cultural communication in China, the accepting basis for American TV drama in contemporary China, and the inspiration that American TV drama communication gives to the development of Chinese TV drama. In the first chapter, the definitions of American TV drama and cross cultural communication as well as American TV drama communication process are included. From the aspects of background, suspense, structure and character, in the second chapter, the author takes Prison Break as an example to analyze the universal narrative pattern of its version. Then, the author analyzes the universal idea of value that shows in the drama. Finally, the author analyzes the advantages of mixed type TV drama and the elegant procedure that American TV drama has, aiming at finding out the reason why American TV drama successfully made its cross-cultural communication. In the third chapter, from the aspects of network new media communication platform and the audience group that American TV drama has in China, the author analyzes the accepting basis of American TV drama. In the last chapter, the author concludes the inspiration that American TV drama gives to the development of Chinese TV.From the aspect of cross-cultural to see the impact that network new media puts to the communication of TV drama development, the key point of this paper is making our Chinese TV drama better use of the network new media platform and better make its cross-cultural communication. The American TV drama communication in China is not only a cross cultural phenomenon, but also a global issue. We can not simply regard this cultural globalization from the vision of criticism, saying that it is the hegemony rule of America or western culture. Instead, we should take the issue from the vision of cross-cultural. If we see it as the multi-culture development in the world, we will be more motivated and calm to face the challenge. In the conclusion of the paper, the author says that only with a clear mind to make plans for future development, only fully use the internet new media, only from the standard of the globe to keep the traditional culture, only push our good drama to the world, only keep a state of harmony among different cultures, are the strategy when facing the cross-cultural communication of American TV drama.
