Among the four types of sentences in modern Chinese language, Imperative Sentence is receiving more and more attention from the academia. After a brief review and summary of the current research on this subject, this thesis finds out that it deserves further study. On this basis, research on the following aspects is made.In the first place, according to the modern speech act theory of pragmatics, the definition of the force of Imperative clause is confirmed. Then, the difference between force and meaning is distinguished and the force is classified into three degrees. The factors affecting the force are also briefly discussed.In the second place, the inside factors affecting the force of Imperative Sentence is analyzed from the point of communicative function of language. The influence o of personal noun, predicate, auxiliary, sentence structure, sentence form and tone n the force of Imperative Sentence are studies respectively.In the last place, the impact of force of Imperative Sentence on our language communication is explored from the outside factors. It studies the influence of context, the communicative effect of different degree of force, the understanding of force and the problems on code-switching.On the basis of the previous studies, this thesis strives to make a further understanding of Imperative Sentence in modern Chinese language so as to explain the related phenomenon in our communication.
