In recent years, researchers pay more attention to the development of theory of mind(ToM). Most studies found that children have a great development in theory of mind. According to the Life-Span Perspective, the development of theory of mind is a life-span task. However, we know little about the development of college students'theory of mind. Further research on college students'theory of mind should be carried out. Moreover, the relationship between theory of mind and altruism attract researchers'attention. But, the former studies only focus on the relationship between theory of mind and altruism among children. The study of the relationship between implicit altruistic tendency and theory of mind in college student need more effort.This study firstly expounds and analyses the domestic and overseas relative researches of the theory of mind and the relationship between the theory of mind and altruistic tendency, then raises the purpose of this study based on the analyses of the past research:①prove up the characteristics and otherness of the theory of mind between different subjects, genders and grades of undergraduate students.②prove up if the altruism behavior of the undergraduates has implicit tendency, moreover, analyses the relationship between implicit altruistic tendency and explicit altruistic behavior, thus investigate the relationship between implicit altruistic tendency and the theory of mind. The study raises the following assumptions:①the score of the theory of mind of arts students is significantly better than science students;②the score of theory of mind of female students is significantly better than male students;③the score of theory of mind of third year students is significantly better than first year students;④the altruistic tendency of third year students is significantly higher than first year students;⑤the score of the theory of mind of the group of altruism is significantly better than the group of non-altruism.The subjects of this study are chosen from 280 undergraduates, and investigated in two researches. The first research investigates the characteristic of the theory of mind of 126 selected undergraduates using false belief task and reading the mind in the eyes task. The second research selects 121 undergraduates and divides them into group of altruism and non-altruism using implicit association test, let them do the test of the theory of mind, and then compares the results of the theory of mind of the undergraduates in the groups of altruism and non-altruism.The result shows:(1)With the increase of age, the theory of mind of the undergraduates is still developing. General speaking, their development level of the theory of mind is preliminary grown, the score of third year students is higher than first year, female is higher than male, arts students is higher than science students(2)For the false belief task, the theory of mind of the undergraduates is close to maturing, the score of third year students is higher than first year, female is higher than male, arts students is higher than science students.(3)For the reading the minds in the eyes task, the theory of mind of the undergraduates is preliminary grown. The score of third year students is higher than first year, female is higher than male, arts students is higher than science students.(4)The undergraduates has implicit altruistic tendency, and significant difference exists between different years, the score of third year students is higher than first year.(5)The group of altruism and non-altruism has significant difference in the tasks of the theory of mind, the total score of the theory of mind has positive prediction on altruistic tendency. The result of the group of altruism is better than the group of non-altruism in the false belief task, reading the mind in the eyes task and total score. In the first, second and third nesting level of the theory of mind, the difference between the groups of altruism and non-altruism is extremely significant, the group of altruism is better than non-altruism.
