Women writers in Shanghai School during the 40's as a brilliant creative group in 20th century are popular to contemporary researchers. Commentators studied the women writers in Shanghai School during the 40's from the literary, cultural, and gender aspects. But the "sick" women image in their works has never been studied. In order to expand the research of women writers in that time,this thesis focuses on the survival debates by feminist literature in Shanghai occupied by the enemy,using the intensive reading of the paper criticism to focus on the images of "sick" women,and it combines with feminist literary theory.There is a long time for illness narrative in literature. The sick rich in symbolic meaning, is more prominent theme in Chinese Literature in the 20th century. For some reason, writers have a sense a "disease complex." It is a usual theme that women are sick in female writers during the 40's in Shanghai School. The reason is as following. At that time, after Shanghai being invaded by Japan, the political atmosphere is not free and sensitive. In such complicated environment, the female writers, depressed the women's survival circumstance and real fate, were tended to write trivial life. They told the true voice by describing the "sick" women.The thesis analyzes the images of the"sick"women in female writers'novels during the 40's in Shanghai School, mainly from the "sick" women's symptoms, causes and metaphors and so on, which reveals the life of women living circumstances and fate. The women writers in Shanghai School wrote three types of "sick" Women.â… : "sick" women of Desolate No-I Say .In patriarchal society, women were repressed even distorted by the gender. The female side of the true nature must be changed, and virtually they lost themselves. Women writers of Shanghai School in the 40's, they recorded a group of lost "sick" woman. They trapped in their old families and devoided themself, loosing into self-love, slaughtering by others as a lamb mercy. Women writers show me free female desolate situation with such "disease" in the ill woman.â…¡:"Sick" women of muddy struggle type. In the autobiographical novel of women writers in Shanghai School, the writers displayed the women in love and marriage and career .Ideological struggle and the sense from the old and new conflicts in the "sick" women's point of view, even if the new women's economic independence, but the family still controls by husband. "Sick" women hate to be subject by husband and trapped in no position, then experience several struggles and resistances. In their marriages and the emotional struggles in the course of the disease process is, through illness to reveal the woman suffered physical and psychological torture, in torment, step by step toward awakening, highlighting women's self-consciousness.â…¢: "Sick" women in heavy resistance-type. "Sick" women find some ways of self and different in the struggle. In the text, "the abyss" and "sick" women and "prudent and tact" mad woman are trying to grasp their own life. They struggle with the realities of life into a tragedy, leaving a heavy echo.The novels of women writers in Shanghai School during the 40's shaped the different patterns of "sick" women. Women Writers meticulously descripted the sick women .So that the texts are covered by the gloomy desolation of the atmosphere. These are factors that writers have personal experience and cultural background. The images of the"sick"women in female writers'novels during the 40's in Shanghai School are not only one writer's outside of their own ideas, but also convey their women in society and family and marriage how to grasp their thinking. Therefore, the sick is not only the direct expression of women's physical and mental pain, but also the spirit of women's inner conflicts and anxiety and socialization, which express women's concerns and thoughts in women writers of Shanghai School.
