Since the fuzzy linguistics came into being, fuzzy language phenomena have aroused great interest in the related academic circles. Fuzziness of language is the reflection of people's recognition of the uncertainty of the genetic boundary and behavior and it is the characteristic of human thinking mode represented in the form of language. Though legal language has its unique forms and is known as formal language, fuzziness in it that one cannot shun. Since China adopted the policy of reform at home and open-door to the outside world and joined the international community, translating legal documents into foreign languages has become more and more important in many fields. Along with the current situation of rapid globalization, the translation of legal documents has played an ever-growing role of importance in the international communications. So how to deal with the fuzzy language in legal translation will become an urgent need and an unavoidable issue in terms of translation studies. This dissertation attempts to make a somewhat detailed analysis of why legal texts carry fuzzy language. It takes Foreign Trade& Economy Cooperation Laws and Regulations of China published by Law Press in Beijing as text for a case study. Its chief goal is to search for some feasible and effective translation strategies for translating the fuzzy language in the legal texts with the Foreign Trade & Economic Cooperation Laws and Regulations of China published by Law Press as the source of language materials. It is deeply convinced that legal exchanges in the international background will be on increase along with the ever-deepened globalization. The approach to this study is following the principle of"setting rules by showing examples"and combining the analysis of language materials collected from the above–mentioned text and philosophical inference based on the translating strategies proposed by Liu Miqing in his Newly-Compiled Contemporary Translation Theories. The present dissertation consists of six chapters:The introduction introduces the source, objections and meaning of this subject.Chapter one first presents the current studies on fuzzy language and translation at home and abroad, stated the definition of fuzzy language, legal language and laws and regulations, analyzed the stylistic features of legal language in particular.Chapter two presents that legal language is a combination of fuzzy language and precise language, examined the reasons of fuzzy language in legal texts, and analyzed the emergence of fuzziness in translation from the perspective of Concept Integration Theory.Chapter three is the main body of this paper. This part introduced the contents of Foreign Trade& Economy Cooperation Laws and Regulations of China , combined the analysis of language materials collected from the above–mentioned text and philosophical inference based on the translating strategies posed by Liu Miqing in his Newly-Compiled Contemporary Translation Theories.Chapter four makes a conclusion and points out the further study on this subject.
