Objective To study the status and influential factors of problem behavior among primary and junior middle school students in the countryside of Anhui Province, in order to provide a basis for reducing the incidences of problem behavior and juvenile delinquents.Methods 3 Primary School and 3 Junior Middle School in Chang feng county were selected by stratified cluster sampling.Then 3515 students of grade four, five, six and all of the junior middle school students were selected by cluster sampling.With the help of investigator, the students filled out the anonymous questionnaire voluntarily.The questionnaire included demographic characteristics of students and parents, Prediction Test of Problem Children(PPCT), Self-esteem Inventory(SEI) and Eysenck Personality Questionnaire(EPQ).At the base of univariate analysis, multiple logistic regression analysis was employed to explore the relationship among the demographic characteristics of the students and parents,home environment,school environment, students'self-esteem and personality, and the dependent variable was problem behavior.Results The prevalence rate of problem behavior was followed by unsuited for interpersonal relations(15.99%), unsuited for learning(8.39%), emotional instability(14.62%), and the incidence of full scale was 5.83%.The prevalence rate of problem behavior among male students was higher than that among female students and with significant difference. And the prevalence rate of problem behavior was higher in primary school students than that in junior middle school students and with significant difference. There was a significant association between communication with parents, teacher-student relationship,peer relationship.The multivariate logistic regression analysis showed that gender, grade, stay-at-home, communication with father,teacher-student relationship,results, self-esteem, four dimensions of personality were influential factors of problem behavior.Conclusions Problem behavior of Primary and Junior Middle School students in the Countryside is widespread.The occurrence of problem behavior can be related to a variety of factors.To strengthen mental health education may be the appropriate solution to set a good personality and self-esteem and reduce the incidence of problem behavior.
