The New Folk Song Movement which took place in 1958 is also called the Folk Song Movement of Great Leap Forward or Great Leap Forward of literature and Art. This mass poetry movement originated by Mao Zedong and responded by government at all levels is the main exploration of this thesis. There are three chapters in this article.Introduction carries out a general introduction of the background knowledge which is associated with the whole paper. The first chapter includs a summary of perceptions and characteristics of Chinese traditional folk song and new folk song, and a illustration of the singing style and significance of the new folk song. The second chapter analyses the background and reasons of the generation of new folk songs during the Great Leap Forward from three perspectives:the historical background of the rise of new folk song movement; profound reasons of the occurrence of new folk song movement; and the new folk song movement and Political Mobilization.The third and fourth chapters serves as the key to the study. Researches on the development and representative works of New Folk Song movement have been conducted in Chapter Three, which also contribute to the refining of the main body of composing process during the New Folk Song movement. Chapter four carries out a evaluation of this political folk song movement from various angles, including the relationship between New Folk Song movement and the new poetry, the Instantaneity and Historicality of the new folk song movement, the spiritual connotation and artistic significance of the New Folk Song movement, and finally a reflection on this movement.The last chapter not only serves as a summary of the thesis, but also prospects for the future of folk song movement briefly.
