This thesis probes into the locative objects in modern Chinese and the related problems. The thesis revolves around three main problems:the standard of distinguishing locative objects, the sub-categories of locative objectives and the motivation of the formation of atypical locative objects. The main points of this thesis are:1. It's not effective methods to judge locative objects by pure semantic sense or question with "na'er"(哪儿)or refer with "zhe'er"(这儿)"na'er"(那儿)or transformation analysis.2. "Location words" in the past study in fact are nouns with high spatiality or higher spatiality. Objects acted as by location words are not necessarily being locative objects.3. Direction words are markers of location and can be used to indentify the locativity of objects.4. The grammar indexes given by Yuan, Y-L (2008) can reflect the basic features of patient. These grammar indexes can be used to indentify the patientivity of objects.5. Objects like "qubeijing"(去北京)are typical locative objects; Objects such as "shuishafa"(睡沙发)and "dudongkou"(堵洞口)are atypical locative objects; Objects such as "zuoqiche"(坐汽车)/"shuqianbian"(梳前边)and "chishitang"(吃食堂)have no locativity, so these kinds of objects are not locative objects; In structures like "fangzhuozishang"(放桌子上),the components after verbs are locative complements, but not locative objects.6. In the "verb+locative object" structures that caused by rhemization, all the locative objects have certain degree of patientivity, which proves that the change of grammatical position will influence semantic roles.7. Economy and focusation are important motivations of the formation of atypical locative objects.
