Quan Zuwang(1705-1755), styled Shaoyi, also known by his literary name Xieshan, was from Yin County, Zhejiang Province. As a significant scholar in Qing Dynasty, Quan Zuwang was the authority in historical studies in the east part of Zhejiang, who had made remarkable contributions to Classics, History and Historiography, having a profound impact on later generations. The enthusiasm for the study of Quan Zuwang has lasted for many years, with researchers putting forth considerably valuable findings from different angles. However, it is quite evident that the study of Quan Zuwang was mainly about the introduction to his life and works, his thought on History and his moral integrity of a patriot. To the study of his research methods, there is no sufficient care and noteworthy conclusion. This paper is intended to conduct a study on Quan Zuwang's view on Classics and History at a more penetrating level. The whole paper consists of two parts:the first part is a general comment and depiction on Quan Zuwang's personal and academic background, his life and works, in order to set up a clear background for the formation of his view on Classics and History; the second part is the core part, emphasizing on the unique features of his academic ideas-the combination of Classics and History, which would be discussed respectively in the following two sections-Classics in History and History in Classics, gradually revealing his academic spirit of showing his aspirations by History and implanting reality in Classics. To sum up, this paper is intended to supply new and useful information to the study of Quan Zuwang from the perspective of Classics and History.
