Chinese seal culture is a comprehensive performance of art, history, academy and culture, which is closely connected with seal, seal cutting and seal studies under social culture and historical background. From the historical perspective, Chinese seal culture has gone through two important transitions. Due to the rise of literati seal cutting in Song and Yuan dynasties, the first transition of Chinese seal culture was from seal to seal cutting, from practical use to artistic creation and conscious aesthetic perception. The second transition was based on the establishment and development of Xiling Engravers'Society in the late 19th century and early 20th century. This article makes a brief analysis of Chinese seal culture through the cultural restructuring in modern times, and discusses an obvious transition of Chinese seal culture in the second transition, which is modern transition. Chinese social transformation involves every field of the society. The author is particularly interested in the transformation of interpersonal relationships, the appearance of the society, transition concerning academy and cultural outlook and trend of thought in mercantilism in modern times and the transition of Chinese seal culture was explored from three different aspects. Firstly, seal cutter—the schools of seal studies-seal engravers'society:seal cutting creation and the research of seal studies change from individuals to society; secondly, based on seal studies—independence and doctrinism of seal studies; thirdly, commercialization pattern and diversification in propagation mode of Chinese seal culture.
