Homer's Epics and Jangar are respectively regarded as Western and Chinese cultural treasures,each of them contains different historical cultures and national mentality. The scholars after generation had made deep studies about these two Epics. This thesis gives a detailed comparison from the view of primitive thought, in result to discover their difference and sameness, and demonstrate the universality of primitive thought and its uniqueness expressed in different nations. This paper firstly expounded the born and the characteristics of primitive thought based on the research of predecessors, then further gives discussion about the similarities and differences in the Homer's Epics and Jangar. Through the similarities of these two epics, we may able to understand more comprehensively about primitive thought. In the meanwhile, we could also see the difference of thinking between Eastern and Western due to the background of various geography, culture and national characteristics.This paper consists 5 parts;The first part is the introduction, briefly discussed the emergence and development of human thinking, which covers the literary studies development in China from the view of primitive thought, the profound meaning for later generations to understand the situation of that society left by Epics which is regarded as one of the most precious heritage of primitive society, as well as the research method and the value of paper. The second part analyses the emergence and features of primitive thinking, redefined the concept of primitive thinking based on the studies done by ancestors, also described the general rules and summed up all the characteristics of primitive thought into a way of more direct, more penetrating, more mysterious, more practical and logical.The third part gives specific analysis about features mentioned above in the Homer Epics and Jangar, so to prove the authenticity and universality of primitive thought, as well as to confirm Epic is one of the important carrier of this point of view.The fourth part summarizes the difference of Homer and Jangar, and expressed the reason of forming different mentalities in different nations in the Primitive Times, due to variation of geographical environment, culture background, national psychology, etc.The last part is the conclusion, which summarizes this thesis's main points, the value of this thesis, as well as the contents which need to be further studied.
