The Irony Research Of Besieged Fortress In The New Criticism

The intention of this thesis is to analyze the ironic art special features of Besieged Fortress by the irony theory of the new criticism.The new criticism research the difference of language by irony on the basis of insisting in absolute text origin. Irony is not only the skill of language rhetoric,but also the strategy of the whole text,even a kind of thingking method or philosophy. Besieged Fortress is a city of ironic language,they reach a high fit between theory and practice in the difference of Chinese and Western literary criticism.The meeting point is the pivot of the whole thesis.So I mainly appreciate the text on the basis of literary view and the source of new criticism in the eye of comparative literature.It is beyond the traditional modified way of exsiting research and endow Besieged Fortress with ironic idea of the new criticism.The first part of this thesis macroscopically analyzes the text originally with language of adoration and value under "organic form",it discriminates between new criticism and traditional ironic way to show its unique characteristic.The ironic characteristic of Besieged Fortress and the conscientious style of the new criticism bring out the best in each other.The second part analyzes irony and tension of Besieged Fortress in the microcosic way on the basis of macroscopical theory. Among them,, speech level of ironic mainly include "understatement and overstatement", "the lingual transform under the principle of heterogeneous and long-distance", "speech language situation of have intention to wrong place" three aspects; because the new criticism is bloomed into macroscopical irony, so the thesis also analyzes global irony in Besieged Fortress, this kind of irony takes objective narrator as jeerer in irony,but in fact,the jeerer is laughed unconsciously with other people in the process.The phenomenon of Besieged Fortress in the ironic odd circle was set for the leading character and other ones. Irony is the main form of the new criticism,the meaning of irony must be supported by context of words and make it pay attention to the language form but not pro forma determinism.So the third part analyzes the theory of language situation in the new criticism and reveals the meaning function of Besieged Fortress in the language situation,it mixes humanistic criticism and the intertext between" Besieged Fortress" and "Small World". Humanistic criticism was divided into general criticism and individual criticism;then " Besieged Fortress" and "Small World" get together in the theme and opinion.The tragedy which was represented by Boss and Hong-jian Fang.Human beings want to seccess but lose, this is the heartless irony to human beings in the preposterous world. And " Besieged Fortress" is a "Small World",the people there are full of inexhaustible lust which can not be got forever, this is the paradox of human beings.
