The Study Of Chenwei In Ming And Qing Novels

Although the study of Chenwei have begun to decrease since the Eastern Han Dynasty, but thoughts of Chenwei occupies a special place in Chinese ancient political and culture for a long time. From the Sui Dynasty, ban on the culture of Chenwei made it turn to folk on a large scale, which mixedtogether with folk culture. Various forms of fortune-telling were flourishing as never before, people were piously beliving this form of precognition in the Song, Ming and Qing Dynasties.The Ming and Qing novels fully show the purport of social life and cultural as encyclopedia so that we understand the social status and the fashion of that era. A mass phenomenon of Chenwei used in the Ming and Qing novels shows temporal prosperity of the culture of Chenwei.In order to reserch the phenomenon of Chen Wei, this paper started from the facts combining the Ming and Qing novels with the relevant records in the books of divination combined with mystical confucianist belief,historical books and compendia, and it is divided into three parts:In the first chapter, we summarize the explicit and implicit type of Chenwei used in the Ming and Qing novels.And in the second chapter, we analyze the folk tendency to Chenwei in the Ming and Qing novels, which was exhibited into three aspects:changed from political characters into fatal characters; appeared lots of descrptions of predicting future events;expressed individual fate in a transcendental way。At last,in the third chapter, we study intentions, narrative and aesthetic function of Chenwei in the Ming and Qing novels.Firstly,we analyse the relationship of the usage of Chenwei with opinions on legitimism, the mandate of heaven and the predestination.Secondly,we reveals that the opinion of nature unity of Chenwei influence the pattern of circular frame in the Ming and Qing novels,because the Chenwei's mystical suggestion and accurate fulfilled results can set foreshadowing and motivate the development of the plot. Finally, review beneficial properties of Chenwei, reserch readability, poetic beauty, mystery of Chenwei in the novels.
