Synonymous Body Nouns referent the same human organ or body parts, but they are different in extensional meanings and syntactic distribution. This research project, mainly applying the Distributing theory of Structuralism systematically researches word formation, meanings and syntax of thirty-five body nouns within fourteen groups which are in common use in Modern Chinese, and discovers many differences among synonymous body nouns, supports a new angle of view for distinguishing synonymous words. This research program mainly includes the following sections:Part One:Define object and range of the study, summarize synonymous body nouns'study situation,discuss methods and significance of the study.Part Two:The classification of synonymous body nouns.In this part, synonymous body nouns are classified into different types according to historic and synchronic rules.Part Three:The research on synonymous body nouns building words.The exploration contains:the power of synonymous body nouns forming words,the distribution of synonymous body nouns in words, phenomenon of substitution of synonymous body nouns in word formation. This part also makes some explanation for some phenomenon.Part Four:The research on synonymous body nouns in meaning. On the basis of summarizing and comparing the sememe, analyszing the reason cause the differences and similarities by using Metaphor and Metonymy theory of Cognitive linguistics,the chapter discusses factors which affect the power of synonymous body nouns express meanings.This part also researches the meaning inclination of synonymous body nouns in words by investigating the rate of sememe used in words.Part Five:The syntactic distribution of synonymous body nouns. From three aspects this chapter explores the syntactic distribution on the condition that synonymous body nouns referent human organ or body parts:the distribution of synonymous body nouns act as subject, predicate, object, attribute and adverbial modifier in sentence, synonymous body nouns act as classifiers, synonymous body nouns in locative phrases.This part also compares syntactic function within different kinds of synonymous body nouns.Part Six:Make a summary of the research and point out the deficiency.
