Post-colonialism, as a kind of mixed literary criticism, offers us a cross-subject perspective and enables us to turn critical eyes on the colonial culture under the prevailing imperialism of western European countries.This paper attempts to use the theory of post-colonialism which started at 1960s and developed at 1990s as the basis, choosing orientalism and postcolonial feminism to start the research into "Pavilion of Women " from the perspective of race, sex, culture and empiricism, cultural resistance, globalization and metropolitan. Discussing how Chinese feminism occurred and developed under the influence of post-colonialism, and how Chinese feminism showed its special cultural connotation under the control of western mainstream culture.This paper also attempts to make the history of post-colonialism as the subordinate line and the process of feminism in China as principal line to analyze post-colonialism from different developmental stages, examining the western feminism before coming to the conclusion that the rise of Chinese feminism is urged by western cultural colonialism. Meanwhile, the special cultural background of China produced the typical Chinese feminism that is distinguishable from western feminism.The thesis is divided into five parts. Chapter one gives a brief introduction to Pearl S. Buck and her literary works. Chapter Two explains theories of Feminism, Post-colonialism and Postcolonial Feminism, and their influences on politics, economics, and culture. Chapter Three mainly talks about feminism in the West and in China. Chapter Four discusses the change and awakening of Chinese female under the impact of western cultures, and the analysis of the heroine's female image and social positioning in the postcolonial way. Chapter Five is conclusion. Claiming the development of Chinese feminism is deeply effected by post-colonialism and is the process of fusion of Chinese culture and western culture. Meanwhile, it is the reinvention of western feminism.
