Pearl S Buck is deeply associated with China and Chinese people,who has been living in China for nearly 40 years(from 1892 to 1935).Scholars studies Buck's novel in varied views like Imagology,Post-colonialism,Feminism,Cultural relativism…while it still remains great spaces for us to analyze her novel by using the Eco-feminism concept.Eco-feminism is a more complex concept which combines and deepens people's understanding about Feminism and Ecologism.It not only interprets the Patriarchy by using Conventional Feminism,Eco-feminism,but also studies the cultural root of Ecologism.As a female writer,Buck gives much attention to the marginalization of female sound.She criticized the Patriarchy which leads oppression to woman and causes the indifference to eco issues,hoping to construct an ideal society that man,woman,natural can live in harmony.This essay tries to analyze and enrich the studies of Buck's novel from the perspective of Eco-feminism.The essay is divided into six section.The first section is the introduction.First to review Buck's research status in China and abroad,then to clarify the origin and development of eco-feminism,views and genre,and lastly to expounds the innovation of this paper.The second section to the fifth section are the first chapter to fourth chapter of the essay accordingly.The first chapter mainly discusses the Buck's own view of nature and of women.Based on study of Buck's three biographies such as My several worlds,The Exile and Fighting Angel,this essay discusses the causes of the ecological concept and female concept.It also focus on analysis of Buck's cultural identity,growing environment and etcetera factors which influence her personality forming and literary creation.From the second chapter to the fourth chapter,it discusses the concrete embodiments of Eco-feminism in the works of Pearl S Buck,like novel The Good Earth,Pavilion of Women,Dragon Seed,Kinfolk,Mother and East Wind: West Wind etcetera.the second chapter analyzes the authority image of man and the marginalization image of woman.from the male images of keen pleasure and outrageous autocratic,to explore the male authority;from the woman images of seeking shelter and adherence to tradition,to explore the female marginalization status,so as to interpret Buck's critical thought about man/woman binary opposition;The third chapter of this essay,tries to state the unique relations between nature and woman which showed in Buck's works through illustrating the similarities in each side's symbols and experiences.The similarities in symbols include the correlation of names and the relevance of languages;and the similarities of Experience status,include three points: woman's special understanding about nature,the delicate relations between natural changes and women's destiny,the same position of “the other”of women and natural are all in an other position.The fourth chapter of this essay,discusses Buck's exploration for the harmony society through building the harmonious coexistence of men and women and the construction of an ideal home.The sixth part is the epilogue.It concludes that Buck,as a female writer,reflects her own consciousness and thought actively for the relationship between men and women,human and nature,which is full of social significance.Under the background of globalization,Buck's works provides a chance for China and the world to know each other well.Researching the ecological problems and women problems which showed in Buck's works under consciously or unconsciously ways,helps us to understand Buck's unique cultural identity and complicated life better.It will also awaken and promote the awareness of human equality and the ecological protection.
