A Study Of Wang Liming And The Collections Of Bai Xiangshan

In Qing Dynasty, the studies of Tang poetry is very prosperous, lots of important books about poetry criticism appear by this time, including poetry criticism, notes and explanations of poems, they paid more attention to poet in Tang Dynasty, including the less famous one. Bai Juyi is the famous poet in Tang Dynasty, however the scholars in Qing Dynasty do not appreciate him, only one explanation works about his poems survives over three hundred years. The work is the collections of Bai Xiangshan, writed by Wang Liming. By editing, researching, proofing and so on, he provides a more accurate version of Bai Juyi's poems. This paper probes for the life of Wang Liming and the collections of Bai Xiangshan in four parts. In the first chapter, the writer tries to analyze the reasons why the scholars in Qing Dynasty do not appreciate Bai Juyi; In the second chapter, the writer researches the life of Wang Liming by the newly found materials; The third chapter pays more attention on the value and status of the collections of Bai Xiangshan; The fourth chapter mainly explodes the style of explanation and arts features in the collections of Bai Xiangshan. This paper tries to analyze the reasons why the poems of Bai Juyi are left in the cold by analying many historical datas, as well as to evaluate the value and status of the collections of Bai Xiangshan.
