A Study On Diachronic Changes Of Modified Adverbs

The range adverbs in Chinese is an important sub-category. Although the academic has done a lot of work for the range adverbs research, but the mainly focused on the range adverbs in specified book and adverbs in a single elegant. The special study for the categories of definitive adverbs is rare. This article is based on previous studies, combining synchronic and diachronic approach, analyze the source from the aspect of historical perspective and analyze the directivity of semantic, function of combining, distribution of syntactic and the choose of style. Using theories of grammar and semantics, the paper made a systematic and comprehensive investigation of the source about modified adverbs, and attached the importance to the discussion of category of adverbs which can be used not only as definitive adverbs but also as omnibus adverbs and described the phenomenon and gave a preliminary inquiry of its possible causes.This total includes three parts:introduction, main body, conclusion. The preface introduced the previous research about the Chinese adverbs,its general classification and the definition and classification in this paper. The main part consisted of four chapters. The first chapter introduced standards about establishing and classifying of range adverbs, and made re-classification for them. According to the stages of Chinese history, chaptersâ…¡andâ…¢discussed the adverbs that appeared in different period of time, according to two categories, and gave a brief survey to the adverbs, using grammatical theory (the principle of discrimination change, progressive principles, etc.) and pragmatic theory (the analysis of the law). Chapter IV focuses on the phenomenon that adverbs can be used not only as definitive adverbs but also as omnibus adverbs. Those adverbs were divided into two categories:interchangeability and significance of contradictions whose possible causes and development were analyzed in this thesis, too. Based on the contents that the article discussed earlier, Conclusion summarized up the source of the modified adverbs and its special usage comprehensively.
