Based on researching the recorded literature and the author's extensive field work, this paper systematically studies the Tibetan songs and dances which circulated in the Labrang region.In the first chapter the author introduces the cultural context of the Labrang Tibetan society and the local Tibetan singers and dancers. In the second chapter the author systematically describes and analyzes the local Tibetan songs such as gLu, La gZhas, Mani, rDung Len, Ngal-rtsol gyi Ngag-gZhas and Byis-pa'i gLu etc. In the third chapter the author depicts the local Tibetan dances such as Bro and Gar. In the fourth chapter the author introduces in detail the religious music and dances at Labrang monastery. In the fifth chapter the author describes the local unique art forms of bShad Pa and 'Pras dKar etc. In the sixth chapter the author analyses the form variations, social functions and aesthetic values of the Labrang local songs and dances.In this paper the author also pays much attention to study the relationship between the local people's religious beliefs and the songs and dances and interpret their cultural value.Finally the author concludes that those various local songs and dances are the most precious cultural heritage and they should be carefully protected and promoted to benefit not only the locals as well as many others.
