William Faulkner (1897-1962) is a great experimental creator of novel skills in 20th century. It is largely due to his artistic use of creative skills that he is placed among the world classic writers and gained the Nobel Literatural Prise.Why does the writer improve William Faulkner's The Sound and the Fury to the "modern epic"? It is due to his selection and conception, and further his unique writing skills which make The Sound and the Fury a shining light. The research for Faulkner and The Sound and the Fury, many domestic and foreign scholars are concentrated in listing skills and skimming their uses; mostly use the critic theories to display the artistic effects from a certain point, few are focused on the point of skills'interaction or blend, which is from a variety of techniques, to examine the use to multi-level image and rich meaning; Most are keen on their general appreciation, and why does it have such a large artistic influence, why does his artistic achievement achieve such degree, including unique, rationality, inevitability. It is a platform for the discussion of this thesis.The thesis is made up of three parts:introduction, body and conclusion, and the body consists of six small parts.Introduction:The "modern epic", which created according to the completed creative skills, focus in setting arguments. Firstly, it does an overview on Faulkner and The Sound and the Fury's present Research. Then it mainly discusses the skills'important position in art creation, further explains the characteristics of William Faulkner in details:"reconstruction", it refers to the art's sublimation, which hides creative intention. Finally, it establishes the epic status of The Sound and the Fury in comparison with the traditional pattern.Body:It mainly analyzes narrative, theme, subject, representation, time, structure, symbolic and other creative skills'reconstruction."1>, The narration's reconstruction ". Firstly, it lists the conventional omniscient narration' feature; Next, it talks about Faulkner's reconstruction of "self-knowing" narrative approach (which is different from the purely limited first-person narration), this narrative strategy's use is based on the fully dense with contents. The advancement of plot, character shape, and even the theme reveal all depended on it. Finally, in conclusion, the core of narration is the skills'choice and use.
