Investigation On American Cultural Hegemony Through Oscar Best Pictures

American culture hegemony, whose objective is to build American values as the universally applicable "truth", and results in the values'popularity of the whole world. Oscar best pictures not only reflect American movies, but also act as a kind of methods for American culture's conveying. The movie art, of which has widely been took advantage, transfers American culture hegemony to the whole world. How to probe the hidden culture hegemony through these movies, and how do these culture hegemony concepts effects China? This dissertation analyzes these problems profoundly.The dissertation is divided into four parts. At the very beginning, in the preface, after a penetrate analysis on basic theories of American culture hegemony and Oscar best pictures, we has found that Oscar best pictures are superexcellent carrier of American culture hegemony. Then, the first chapter points out that, the culture hegemony elements diffuse through three aspects, including transporting American ideology of American aspect, building personal values of American heroes and advocating life style of consumerism. In addition, this chapter also explains how these elements have been transmitted to audiences. The second chapter focus on why and how do American culture hegemony has been implemented by movies. In fact, except for the history reasons, American utilizes the available medium to generalize American character by global commonness, to push American dreams by high technology, to wrap American heart by diversification. In the end, the author put this conclusion forward, that is, in the background of globalization, neither "orientalizing" nor "westernization" is a ideal developing way. In one hand, China should be alert to the erosion of American culture hegemony, and hold unique "culture frontier" tightly, on the other hand, our movies should also learn form foreign countries'advanced aspects, so as to "stand up" and "go out".
