The Study Of The Poetry Theory Of Baishi Daoren

The Poetry Thoery of Baishi Daoren, an important poetry theory works by Jiang Kui,plays an important role in the history of shihua and the chinese literary criticism.Many scholars have made some studies on The Poetry Thoery of Baishi Daoren.However,in the studies,most of the scholars either associated the The Poetry Thoery of Baishi Daoren with Jiang Kui's conception of poetry or with some of Jiang Kui's poems,few of them made systimatic research on The Poetry Thoery of Baishi Daoren.Based on the previous studies,this paper aims at making a deep and systimatic study on ThePoetry Thoery of Baishi Daoren.This thesis can be divided into three parts:introduction,body,conclusion.The introduction mainly focuces on the backgroud of the research,the methodology of the research and the significnace of the research.In the body of this thesis,the author discusses The Poetry Thoery of Baishi Daoren from the perspectives of poetry theory and literary creation.The author intends to illustrate the poetry theories of The Poetry Thoery of Baishi Daoren,its relation with the composing of poems,its relation with the poetry theory in the previous times and in contempary,and its influence.Chapter 1 are some theories of The Poetry Thoery of Baishi Daoren.The author intends to integrate and reconstruct the relevant thoeries of The Poetry Thoery of Baishi Daoren by literary criticism so as to establish an integrated system and give a new intepretaion to Jiang Kui's poems.This chapter discusses the literary creation of Jiang Kui's poems, Jiang Kui's other works,and the acceptability of Jiang Kui's The Poetry Thoery of Baishi Daoren.Jiang Kui paid attention to originality,nature,compositon,and conservation when composing poems.He aslo advocated the The Poetry Thoery of Baishi Daoren Taoism.Thus,he thought poems should be conservative and with rhythm.Chapter 2 deals with the relation between The Poetry Thoery ofBaishi Daoren and Jiang Kui's compsition of poems.This chapter mainly discusses how did Jiang Kui put the theories in The Poetry Thoery of Baishi Daoren into practice by analysing some poems written by him. Jiang Kui's poems were well known for their naturalism and conservation.Qian Zhongshu said that Jiang Kui's poems were poems composed in Song Dynasity but with features of poems in Tang Dynasity in his Tan Yi Lu.The comment was appropriate when we compare Jiang Kui's poems with his poetry theory.Under the influence of Jiangxi Shi Pai,in the early works of Jiang Kui,the poems are full of allusions and quite obscure.Chapter 3 deals with the relation between Jiang Kui's poetry theory with other poetry theories adcovated by poets in the previous dynasties or by those poets lived in the same period with Jiang Kui.In the author's opinon,Jiang Kui not only inherited the poetry theories in the previous dynasities,but aslo established his own poetry theory.Under the influnce of Shi Da Xu,Jiang Kui advocated the Confucianism and Taoism in his poems.We can see this from the quotation of Zhuang Zi in The Poetry Thoery of Baishi Daoren.In addition,the poems in Tang Dynasity and Song Dynasity aslo exerted influnce on The Poetry Thoery of Baishi Daoren.Although Jiang Kui did not clearly show that he did not totally agree with Jiang Xi Shi Pai,we can see it from his advocacy of originality and conservation.Chaper 4 deals with the influnce and the importance of The Poetry Thoery of Baishi Daoren.Based on what have been discussed in chapter 1,chapter 2 and chapter 3,we think that Jiang Kui's The Poetry Thoery ofBaishi Daoren plays an important role in the history of shihua and the chinese literary criticism.Besides,it exerts great influnce on other poets.In the history of shihua,it is a turining point.It predicts that the poems which describes facts is been changing into poems which underlines the rhetoric.In the history of literary criticism,it tells us that people began to contemplate the Jiangxi Shi Pai at that time.The Poetry Thoery of Baishi Daoren aslo influnced the Si Ling and Jiang Hu Pai. The Poetry Thoery ofBaishi Daoren,an important works of Jiang Kui,functioning as guidance for the later poets when they composing poems,is quite popular with the famous scholars such as Wang Shizhen(a famous shcolar in Qing Dynasty) and Yuan Mei.In the last part,the author draws a conclusion from four aspects.Firstly,although The Poetry Thoery ofBaishi Daoren is not impressive as Wen Xin Diao Long by Liu Xie,it covers a lot of things,such as ways to expess emotion,ways to conceive poem,the art state,and the cultivation of the poets. In addition,Jiang Kui came up with his own opinions which had not mentioned before in his The Poetry Thoery of Baishi Daoren. Secondly,the theories in The Poetry Thoery of Baishi Daoren were put into practice by Jiang Kui in his later poems.Although he wanted to break away from Jiangxi Shi Pai,we can still see the inflence of Jiangxi Shi Pai in jiang Kui's poems.Thirdly,we think that The Poetry Thoery ofBaishi Daoren was influnced by the traditional literary works such as Shi Da Xu and Zhuang Zi.The aesthetic standards in The Poetry Thoery of Baishi Daoren were influnced by the Confucianism and Taoism.The poetry styles of it made a graet impact on Shi Hua. The Poetry Thoery ofBaishi Daoren not only inherited the poetry thoery of the previous poets, more importantly,it estabilshed its own theories. Jiang Kui tried his best to get away with Jiangxi Shi Pai to find other ways to express his own views and advocated originality.Lastly,we think that The Poetry Thoery ofBaishi Daoren is the turning point thoery,for it predicted the poems which describes things were been changing into the poems which stress rhetoric.It not only plays an impotant role in the literary history of Southern Song Dynasty(1127-1279),but also exerts great influnce on the poerty critics in Ming Dynasity and Qing Dynasty.
