The era that the 13th Dalai Lama took over the reins was the period of Qing Dynasty in the early Ming. During that period, Britain, Russia, Japan and other powers all had coveted Tibet. At this critical historical moment, the 13th Dalai Lama made an oath :"I swear to follow the inland with my whole heart, and make happiness tegether with our nationality."the sonorous oath, together with the Tibetan people, looking out on the mainland and the central government, which smashed the plot that other powers wanted to separate Tibet from China. The oath of the 13th Dalai Lama expressed the Tibetan long tradition of patriotism and sincerity concentratly, inherited and carried forward the heritage of the Tibetan people and the ancient tradition of the Dalai Lama, conformed the"law of fllow the inland"that form during a long history of Tibetan people. And it made an outstanding historical contributions to the consolidation and development of our multinational state. The 13th Dalai Lama's thought of"follow the inland with my whole heart", in essence, is the self-identity of frontier minority toward Chinese nationality, which reflect the minority agree the mechanisms and rules of China. The thought of"I swear to follow the inland with my whole heart"permeated in all the important period of the rough life of 13th Dalai Lama as well as in his 38 years government time. When the Tibet barged up against the invasion of other countries, the 13th Dalai Lama resort to the mainland central government for solution about the Tibet issue though it was far away from Tibet to Beijing. In the late Qing Dynasty, because of the national decline and the unwise management of central government, Tibet experienceed internal disturbance andforeign aggression, and the Thirteenth Dalai Lama was forced into exile in India. Though he lived in India alone and suffered all kinds of coercion in the imperialists, he protectet Tibet successful whitout abruption caused by the imperialists. During his old age, there were many events to show the behaviour of his thought: Revolution period, the 13th Dalai Lama did not take the opportunity to make Tibet as a "Tibetan separatist"; in the beginning of Chinese Minguo, he abandoned the mode of"in the British possession of three-legged stool"resolutely after thinking carefully. And he was the first one of Ethnic Minority leader who advocated Sun Yat-sen's call of"republic of five nationalities". In the time of Nanjing National Government, the 13th Dalai Lama took the initiative to move closer to the central, and receptet the central female envoy Liu Manqing with enthusiasm and high standard of hospitality. And he also sended someone to participate the national conference in Minguo 20s held by the Nanjing Guomin government and the the 4th national congress of Kuomintang in the same year; in his will, he showed his thought directly. So all above shows the unswerving thought of the 13th Dalai Lama.Part two summarizes the features of the 13th Dalai Lama's thought. The period of Late Qing Dynasty which the 13th Dalai Lama experienced was a special historical period in recent China. Due to both inside and outside interference and intervention fored by Tibetan separatist, unsound political system and poor economic conditions and the complex general affairs, the modern relations between central government and the Tibetan local government was not as simple asbefore, it was even the extraordinarily complex and tortuous in many times. The special historical period in Late Qing Dynasty make the thought of 13th Dalai Lama branded deep within the imprint of the times. Because there was confusion within their cordial and Lost, wandering and watching, suffering and contradiction, the thought of the 13th Dalai Lama had the features of confusion, observation and contradiction. However, these negative features could not change from the 13th Dalai Lama in general attracted to the strong resistance and persistent.Part three analysis the causes of how the thought form from many aspects and angles. The thought of the 13th Dalai Lama showed the patriotic expressions of Tibetan people, which had both the need of strong domestic and international situation and the needs of political reality, even more profound historical and cultural and ideological influence of religious morality were found. In the Late Qing Dynasty, the senses of the patriotic drive of Tibetan people, ethnic contradiction rising and good for both sides for harmony or bad for both sides for separation were the real political source of the 13th Dalai Lama's thought; the same cultural root of Zang-Han is the cultural source of the 13th Dalai Lama's thought; the mercy and patriotic feelings of Tibetan Buddhist is the religional source of the 13th Dalai Lama's thought; ancient tradition within the Dalai Lama, is the historical tradition. source of the 13th Dalai Lama's thought.Part four discusses the multidimensional impacts of the 13th Dalai Lama's thought. The thought of the 13th Dalai Lama disrupted the plans of buiding colony in Far East which made by Russia, Britain and Japan. And the thought of the 13th Dalai Lama engendered different influences in stabling southwest border, inhibiting the separatist trend in Inner Mongolia, strengthen the Panchen Lama lineage of the"inward"and completing the Tibetan national identity.
