A Study Of The Phenomenon Of The Clothes Changing In The Novels Of Qing Dynasty

Disguising, especially the appearance that a woman disguised as a man was endless and to be a popular theme in the classical novels in the Qing dynasty . This article would analysis this phenomenon through Gender Perspective theory, the point of penetration is the sexual identity and gender awareness of the author. The special cultural atmosphere in Qing dynasty has a fairly influence in the Disguising culture. Compared with the past, it appeared a lot of female writers in Qing dynasty and plenty of Disguising phenomenon in works of literature .This article , using the Gender Perspective theory ,attempts to search for the Gender Cultural Significance from Disguising phenomenon in Qing dynasty, furthermore, analysis the different influences from different sex in the subject of creation. In the introduction, firstly, this paper explain the meaning of the subject, and then illustrate the current situation,the purpose &meaning and the research of the study.The First chapter focus on the introduction to the entirety of Disguising in the novels of Qing dynasty. In the novels from Late Ming and Early Qing Dynasty to the whole period of Qing dynasty, there are plenty of Disguising phenomenon, especially the appearance that a woman disguised as a man, moreover, most of them are in the Scholar Beauty Novels which mostly written by male writers and the storytelling fictions which mostly written by female writers. This article analysis the reasons why Disguising phenomenon was so popular in the literature works of Qing dynasty from the following three points: firstly , traditional affection from"feminine mentality",secondly, aesthetic consciousness of the community. thirdly, affection from the culture of"accomplished woman", furthermore, briefly explores a problem( which was always overlooked in academe)---- the male or female writers always chose different style of writing in the same theme of Disguising.The second chapter make a concrete analysis and compare to the works which including disguising appearance written by male and female writers through three aspects: different reasons of disguising, the behavior and the outcome of the woman who disguised as a man . The most important reason of disguising in the Scholar Beauty Novels is that heroine wants to freely choose their husband . However, the main purpose of disguising in the storytelling fictions is to escape marriage and put ability to good use. The disguising of the beauties in Scholar Beauty Novels was only present in private domain and has not been real into the public, let alone showing ability. However , the occasions that the disguised beauty appears has had substantial changes in storytelling fictions, they have been from family to society, from private domain into the public domain, from female realm to male realm; most disguised beauties in the novel were arranged same ending pattern."Disguising"was always the start of disguised woman in the fictions which written by male writer and"regression"was always the ending. Because of the confinement to time, most female writer in Qing dynasty used the same ending pattern, however, some disguised woman insisted on never recovery of women's dress, even being threaten with death, this is of defiant and progressing significant in which outstanding with its Feminine Consciousness.The third chapter focus on the writing difference and its origin of male and female writers. First, to sum up the representation of writing differences from the different sexes experience,the perspective of gender and creation of different purposes. Then , to deeply discuss the cultural connotation contained in the disguising phenomenon of Qing novels.Although the male writers in previous and in Qing dynasty showed their praise to the talent and ability of"disguised woman", but they were restricted in male power consciousness and maintaining the male-dominated absolute authority. Most works of Female writers in qing dynasty were written with Female perspective and cautious expressed women's desire for independence. Even worse, a few women writers confidently"build up on woman"in order to obtain as equal status as man in society. But due to the limitation of history, their thought never completely out of the feudal fetters and finally could not find the real road for female liberation. The disguising phenomenon of female writer, in some instances, was a tragedy of helpless. Because when women had to abandon their gender role for seeking self-- value realization and the prerequisite was changed to take standard identification as male role, it means that they doubted the reasonable premise of their gender. When they finally duty-boundly give up their cause and return household, It is the complete surrender to the patriarchal society. If the Initial scream"become a man immediately"is their consciously against male dominance, then, after they show a woman's identity , return into marriage and family Without hesitation so as to make their military talent,literature aptitude and political ability ruined in marriage . This is the greatest tragedy that they become subservient to men again in politics and economy.
