| As the Chinese economy forges ahead, people of English-speaking countries and Chinese have been brought into closer contact with each other in politics, economy and culture. In order to maintain a harmonious relationship, a better acquaintance of each other's law and regulations are becoming imperative. In view of this phenomenon, the legal translation between English and China are put on the agenda. However, their respectively peculiar characteristics due to the long evolution history and different cultural process inevitably cause the lexical gap which refers that a term or concept in a legal system may not have a proper equivalent in another system, or the term or concept is not shared by two legal systems. Cappellas-Espunny has ever said"A problem arises from the very beginning if the translator aims at finding exact terminological equivalents. The attribution of an equivalent to a legal term, for which no comparable concept exists in another legal system, can be the cause of ambiguities, confusion and all types miscomprehension due to the effect the term in question produces in the reader of the translate text."As can be imagined, how challengeable it will be when one attempt to transform these terms which have no corresponding ones in target language. However, difficult as it is, There are still scholars proceeded this problem and made some achievements. The author begs to stand on the shoulders of these professors to do some researches in order to deal with this problem one step further.
