The primitive thoughts of auspicious rose in Qin Dynasty. With its developing, the auspicious thoughts evolved gradually into a systematic and theoretical sublimation in Han Dynasty. Sense of auspicious had far-reaching significance on all kinds of art in Han Dynasty. The Nanyang Stone Relief of was an important carrier to thoughts of auspicious in Han Dynasty. This article combined representative works with documents and materials as research method. To analyze the characters clearly, a lot of pictures were also used. The research analyzed the factors for the formation and the aesthetic features on Nanyang Stone Relief by the imagism,aesthetic and art psychology. The formation of Nanyang Stone Relief shoud be seen against the era background and the regional background. The era background refers to the influence of politics, economy, culture and art of the Han Dynasty. The regional background embodied the geographical and promoted economic of Nanyang, the spread and improvement of the ironware. The aesthetic features of the auspicious thoughts in Nanyang Stone Relief included not only the Yin and Yang's consciousness and the vivid spiritual lines, but also the imago modeling and graphic tension. Above all, the Yin and Yang's consciousness was embodied by the auspicious pattern's contents, moulding, deployment and the technique of combined negative carving and positive carving. The vivid spiritual lines was very romantic, unrestrained, lively and tenacious. The momentum was fluctuating and active dynamic. The auspicious pattern on Nanyang Stone Relief were concerned more on emotional and spiritual expression than objective patterns or shapes. The vigorous graphic tension of the auspicious pattern on Nanyang Stone Relief was similar to the magnificent beauty of Han Dynasty. It expressed pithy style of pure graphic, active dynamic of motion graphic, and texture's limpid. Discussing about auspicious pattern on Nanyang Stone Relief may contribute to further understanding and controlling of the regulation of the arts and its cultural value. Furthermore, it helps us to explore further relationships of "common communication, mutual harmony, and mutual development" of the traditional art and modern design.
