Mental health is greatly affected by self-esteem and psychological defense mechanisms, concretely, the high or low self-esteem, types of defense mechanisms interact with the level of mental health. The objects of this thesis includes 88 college students and 27 disciplined students, IAT , SES, DSQ, SCL-90 and semi-structured questionnaire are used as measurement tools, study on the Implicit and explicit self-esteem, psychological defense mechanisms, mental health between ordinary students and disciplined students by test and correlation analysis, variance analysis, meanwhile, to find the differences of two groups, through the interview, psychological status of disciplined students should be obtained. This study is divided into three parts, the first part is on the Implicit and explicit self-esteem, psychological defense mechanisms and their relationship with mental health of ordinary students. Conclusions are following:There are no differences between students with high explicit self-esteem and high implicit self-esteem and those with high explicit self-esteem but low implicit self-esteem in psychological defense mechanisms; lo w explicit/ low implicit self-esteem or low explicit/high implicit self-esteem are significant higher in using immaturity defense mechanism; the scores of low explicit/low implicit self-esteem are significant higher than high explicit/high implicit self-esteem in cover factor; explicit self-esteem has significant negative correlation with mental health but not the implicit self-esteem; psychological health of high explicit\high implicit self-esteem is significantly lower than low explicit\high implicit self-esteem, high explicit\ low implicit self-esteem is significantly lower than high implicit\low explicit self-esteem and low Implicit\low explicit self-esteem; immaturity defense mechanisms, intermediate defense mechanism and cover factor have highly correlation with mental health; explicit self-esteem were significantly negatively related to immaturity of defense mechanisms and mental health symptoms, it does not have significant correlation with mature defense mechanism and intermediate defense mechanism, implicit self-esteem does not have any significant correlation with other factors. The second research focus on the disciplined students'self-esteem, psychological defense mechanisms and its relationship with mental health, comparison was done between the above tow groups, the results are as follows: implicit self-esteem exists in the disciplined students, their implicit self-esteem and explicit self-esteem are not related; for disciplined students, explicit self-esteem have significant negative correlation with mental health symptoms, immature defense mechanism, there are positive correlation between explicit self-esteem and mature defense mechanisms; the separation between implicit\ explicit self-esteem are significant correlation with mental health for both students with discipling or not, however, the correlation between separation of self-esteem and mature defense mechanism, immature defense mechanism are also significant besides mental health; mental health symptom have significant positive correlation with immaturity of defense mechanism and have significant negative correlation with mature defense mechanism; the middle defense mechanisms and implicit self-esteem does not have any significant correlation with other factors; disciplined students is significant difference with the ordinary students in implicit self-esteem; whether punished or not has interaction with gender in explicit self-esteem; there are significant differences between the two groups in depression and obsessive-compulsive symptoms. in defense mechanisms, there are significant positive correlation between mature defense mechanism and immature defense mechanism of individuals with no punishment, while the correlation is significant negative between mature defense mechanism and immature defense mechanism of disciplined students; intermediate defense mechanism has significant positive correlation with mature defense mechanism, immaturity of defense mechanism, covered factor of students with no punishment, but the same results is not found among the disciplined students; while intermediate punishment with the maturity of defense mechanism, immature defense mechanism and covered factor are significant positive relate to each other, mature defense mechanism has no significant correlation with covered factor for students with punishment or not.The third study using semi-structured questionnaire to interview on psychological evolution of the disciplined university students, the factors affect the disciplined student and the features of cognition, emotion, behavior of disciplined students. Eventually, the results find that several factors influence the affect degree of discipline including the school adaptation of first year, social support, individual cognitive processing, personality characteristics and attitudes towards punishment.
