Background:Since one hundred years,a familiar name has always been linked with social revolution, women's liberation, critical realism, awakening of humanity and so on.The contribution of this person in the drama scene of the world is well-known.After the early 20th century "landing" on the Chinese literary landscape, he spread his influence to the country where literature needed to be changed. Besides he also laid a solid foundation for the development and spread of drama in China. This man-Ibsen, has been called "Father of Modern Drama".Obviously, as well as his literary and art which won wide recognition,he engendered social changes in China, and this even had far-reaching implications for Modern Chinese Literature. These are all great contributions that can not be matched by any other foreign dramatists. On the other hand, the enlightenment and guidance he exhibited to generations of Chinese intellectuals in both thought and drama which made him,in their eyes,a model in both real life and script writing, can also not be forgotten by the world.Contents:This paper will discuss the fate of Ibsen in China a hundred years and more from the publication and staging of Ibsen and his influence on the modernization of Chinese Literature and intellectuals as well as the meaning and misunderstanding brought by his thought and drama. Conclusion:Numerous twists exist besides impressive expectances and achievements when we look back on the importance of Ibsen in China these past hundred years and more, but the more important is his contribution to laying the foundation and realizing a breakthrough for Chinese drama on the world-wide stage. Therefore, when we are encouraged by the vigorous development of modern Chinese drama, we should not forget that it is because many Chinese intellectuals worked hard for it.So we must treasure the contributions that many Chinese "Ibsen"s have done, and those are necessary for our future development and improvement.
