Social anxiety is a kind of intricate emotional response to a particular or a variety of interpersonal situations characterized by intense nervous anxiety, or emotional reaction of fear and social avoidance behaviorIn the process of Sandplay Therapy, the client use a variety of miniature models and sand within the sandbox to create a world reflecting their internal state of mind. Through the free and creative sandplay, individuals ventilate their negative emotions and feelings, activate the deep level of psyche self-healing power, develop a positive self image and achieves self-realization.This study measures and evaluates the effectiveness of sandplay therapy in the alleviation of social anxiety of university students. Specifically, it sought to identify whether sandplay therapy was a more effective means to alleviate students'social anxiety.This study adopts The equal-group research design, investigating both the quantitative and qualitative methods. The quantitative research:Measures of social anxiety were obtained from the Watson's Social Avoidance and Distress Scale (SADS) before and after the interventions and the results of the different group were compared. The qualitative research: Identify and analyze the effectiveness in the alleviation of social anxiety through the descriptions and comments of sandplay therapy processes as well as the transformation of sandplay contents, themes, ego-images and so on.Conculsions:1. Spontaneous Individual and Group Sandplay therapy are effective in alleviating social anxiety.2. Spontaneous Group Sandplay therapy is more effective in alleviating social anxiety then Spontaneous Individual Sandpaly therapy.3. Sandplay therapy allows social anxiety students to visualize their psychological growth process and demonstrate the treatment process more clearly and carefully.
