A Study On The Development Of The Localization Of Bioethics In China

Chinese bioethics, originally introduced from western countries, is in lack of Chinese characteristics, as a result of indiscriminately imitating. In recent years, receiving attentions from more and more scholars and organizations, the localization of bioethics in China has become a new trend of theoretical study.Bioethics is an applied normative discipline that uses the theories and methodology of ethics to solve the issues in the fields of biology or health care.Based on analyzing and inducing the concept of "localization",the study intends to provide a deeper insight into the connotation localization of bioethics and put forward the basic requirements of local development of bioethics in China.There are mainly three reasons of the development of the localization of bioethics in China. First, the variation of cultural backgrounds is the root cause. Second,"localization" is the internal demand of the development of bioethics in China. Third, international exchanges and cooperation are the external driving force of the localizing of bioethics in China. The analysis of the three causes provides some theoretical basis for this problem.The development of the localization of bioethics in China is still in a primary stage. Based on a summary of the present researches of it, the study proposed the ways in which bioethics develops locally in China. The first is the re-structuring of the theoretical framework of western bioethics. The second is the study of ethical issues in China. The third is the local establishment of the system. More scholars and institutions have started to study the localization of bioethics in China and published some academic papers and achievements on it. They noticed the importance of the application of the theory into Chinese distinctive cases. However, there are still some issues in the development. First, the sense of the localization is growing, but there is a lack of overall academic atmosphere about it. Second, the concern of local characteristics is enhanced, but the research scope is relatively narrow. Third, the scale of localization has been preliminarily established, but it is lack of appropriate evaluation system. Fourth, propaganda work of the localization is enhanced, but the universality of the localization in education and training is relatively slow.When the advance of life science causes a variety of ethical issues, the introduction of bioethics brings useful theories and methods. When bioethics encounters the bottleneck of the development in China, "localization" provides us with a building and developing opportunities of bioethics in China. The study will focus on the long-term development of bioethics in China under the background of globalization, try to find out problems of the development of the localization of Bioethics in China, and put forward some feasible measures and suggestions: (1) to set a target, give a scientific guidance, and sort out the tactics of the development; (2) to hold the trend, make broad participation, and highlight local characteristics; (3) to improve the system, ensure the effectiveness, and harmoniously create the Chinese bioethics.
