Research On Word-formation And Word-making Of Modern Chinese Inverse Morphemes Words

Inverse morphemes words are double syllable multiple words ("SMDO" word), which are consisted of the same morphemes with inversed sequence. Through exhaustive statistic of inverse morphemes words in "Modern Chinese Dictionary"《现代汉语词典》(2005 addition),a word database was established in this dissertation. Based on 935 inverse morphemes words in the database, the research boundary of inverse morphemes words was defined through comprehensive usage of research methods such as quantitative and qualitative, induction and deduction, description and interpretation, diachrony and synchrony. Furthermore, classified description was also given in detail at deep level from word-formation, word-making and logical basis perspective.The first chapter introduced the research situation about word-formation, word-making and logical basis of modern Chinese inverse morphemes words. Furthermore, the value of this paper, research scope and method was also discussed in this chapter.In the second chapter, there was a comprehensive analysis of the situations that the definition may be encountered starting from the definition of "Homology","Reverse","Words" , which were three key elements of the inverse morphemes words. Then, a detailed and rigorous definition about inverse morphemes words was given to help to reinforce the foundation of follow-up paper.Chapter 3 was about the morphological analysis of Modern Chinese inverse morphemes words. According to the grammatical structure, the inverse morphemes words were divided into two categories, which were element with the same morphological and heterogeneous with the prime word. A number of small categories were listed following each category. For each small category, a detailed quantitative description was also presented in order to summarize some regularity.In chapter 4, classified descriptions about word-making of inverse morphemes words were given in detail based on Mr. Ge's coinage system. These analysis referred to "Modern Chinese Dictionary","Dictionary of Chinese arguments" and "Baidu Encyclopedia" and also took diachrony and synchrony into consideration. Among the word-making principles of inverse morphemes words, "Help Law," "two-tone method," "analogy," "Extension Method" and "abbreviated Law" were mainly used. However, since modern Chinese word was paired with the prime reverse form, a reverse order with the prime word may derive from the same law, or from different types. As for such complicated situations, this paper also gave some description in detail.In chapter 5, the logical basis of word-formation and word-making of modern Chinese inverse morphemes words was analyzed. In the mean time, the relationship among word-formation, word-making and logical basis was also revealed.In a word, structural analysis of modern Chinese inverse morphemes words has important significance to the research of Chinese lexicology and grammar. This dissertation did some works in this field and got some achievements. However, the subject was just expounded preliminarily in this dissertation. More detailed analysis will be given in the future study.
