The investigation and analysis for the typeand cause of formation of Chineseinverse morphemes word pairsZhang Wei Abstract: There is a kind of special words in Chinese called inverse morphemesword pairs(IMWPs). Taking the language materials of representative middle and Pre-Modern Chinese works, this article is going to grasp the inverse morphemes word pairs as a whole, search for their cause of formation, and analyze their development and change from the diachronic viewpoint. Meanwhile, we'll classify this kind of words exhaustively from the viewpoint of synchronic, in order to pursue their regularity and systematic nature.Inverse morphemes word pairs are a pair of words with two same and reversed morphemes. Most of them are disyllabic compound words. The two hundred IMWPs collected in this article which have the AB and BA mode will be made every effort to be seen within the same time period, so that they could be described and analyzed conveniently.According to the structure of the words, there are eleven common types of IMWPsin this thesis, i.e. 1. paratactic------paratactic mode, 2. attribute-head------attribute-headmode, 3. subject-predicate-----attribute-head mode, 4. subject-predicate------verb-objectmode, 5. paratactic------attribute-head mode, 6. complement------attribute-head mode, 7.verb-object------attribute-head mode, 8. complement------paratactic mode, 9.verb-object------paratactic mode, 10. complement------verb-object mode and othercompound mode.There are five causes of formation of the IMWPs which are mentioned in this thesis. First, rhyme and PING ZE are the main factors in the respect of phonetics. Second, in regard to vocabulary significance, this phenomenon is inevitable and natural result of vocabulary development. In this section, we'll differentiate and analyze some paratactic mode IMWPs which have different meaning and usage according to the role that core morpheme meaning plays in deciding the words' meaning. Generally speaking, semantic meaning focus of paratactic mode disyllabic often embodied on the latter morpheme. Third, functions, features and grammatical collocation are mentioned in relation to grammar. Fourth, the formation of some IMWPs had intimate relations with rhetoric, such as region, times, style of writers, tone and emotion color, etc. Finally, national psychology, cultural and language custom is another aspect which include ancient naive dialectical thought, mode of thinking that valuing even, concise and classical allusions in ancient times, etc. In addition to all these, "tune order " and other interrelated theories also give the reason for the elimination of BA modes in many IMWPs in pre-modern and modern times.Research on Chinese IMWPs has great significance on the research of Chinese vocabulary. Through carefully analyzing and classifying them, we can not only search for their regularity and system, but also apply them in practice and even capture the passed cultural information, such as national thought and social cultural characteristics.
