This paper is investigates hundreds of articles written by 130 Fu writers in the late Ming Dynasty. The first part of the paper analyzes of the subjects and themes of Fu works. These subjects fall into seven categories—ode to objects, journeys and natural landscapes, emotions and ambitions, historical events, old friends and mourning, wars, and war survivors—which were mostly traditional and yet carried on new changes. The themes mainly concentrated on satirizing the situation of that time, emotional purges or self-entertainment, which resulted in the production of a great number of Fu works that reflected and criticized the darkness of the society. In-depth and detailed analysis of a representative selection of works have been made in the discussion of each category of subject or theme. In the second part of the paper, the system of Fu works in the late Ming Dynasty is explored from the perspective of stylistics. Under the division of Big Fu and Small Fu, this paper attempts to theoretically present an detailed explanation of how Fu works in late Ming Dynasty inherited the Parallel Fu, Li Sao-Style Fu and Prose-Style Fu and how they constantly brought about new features. The third part, which is the innovative part of this paper, focuses on the style of Fu in the late Ming Dynasty. It is concerned with an attempt to display the variation in the mainstream style of Fu works in the late Ming Dynasty from a historical point of view—From bold without loosing freshness to sincere but gloomy in the Wanli Era, forceful and awe-inspiring near the end of Ming Dynasty—which symbolized a distinct sense of innovation and represented the unique value of the Ming Fu.
