In the field of SLA (Second Language Acquisition), language input has been emphasized. Conversely, the importance of language output on SLA has been neglected until Swain proposed the Output Hypothesis. After the proposal of Output Hypothesis, some scholars begin to consider the functions of input and output together, such as Gass, Harmer and some Chinese scholars. A lot of theoretical discussion has been devoted to combining input and output together in SLA. However, the effective way to combine them is upon the look. Thus, the first aim of this thesis is to find an effective way to combine input and output together, that is, to build the task-oriented combination model of input-output.Writing is always a weak aspect of English teaching in China. Although much effort of the teachers and scholars has been put to it, the teaching effect is still not satisfactory. So, this thesis tries to apply the task-oriented combination model of input-output to the teaching of English writing, hoping to improve students'English writing ability on one hand and testify the effect of the task-oriented combination model of input-output in the teaching of English writing on the other hand.Accordingly, an experiment was conducted in two parallel classes in Wuhan Institute of Shipbuilding Technology. The researcher applied the task-oriented combination model of input-output to the teaching of English writing in the experimental class while the traditional PPP model was used in the controlled class. Data about students' writing scores, questionnaires and interview were analyzed after the experiment and the results indicate that task-oriented combination model of input-output has a significant effect on the subjects'English writing proficiency.
