Lacquer art, historically revered as one of China's craft arts, has its unique charm in art and deep accumulation in history and culture. The level of lacquer art has reached the highest in ancient China, which represents the essence of the Chinese traditional culture. According to the historical data, China is the first country to discover sumac and start to lacquer with its juice. While lacquer art is widely known in ancient China, lacquer wares, as sacrifices and supplies, have got closely to people's daily life. Lacquer art is introduced into Japan, Korean, Vietnam and Europe, which even indirectly influences the emergence of oil painting. However, lacquer art nowadays is facing a challenge of rebirth though it made splendid success before. Lacquer art in China is now obviously backward Japan and Korean when it is distant from people's life and then unknown for them. It is always mixed with synthetic paint. As the glory of lacquer art has been the past and the technology is worried to be lost, it is worth to study the problems how to inherit and develop traditional art? How to restart itself and recreate the brilliance?This paper firstly presents the emergence and historical development of lacquer art in brief, which expresses its inside spirit. Then, it analyses the cases in the Japan and Korean from culture, and explores the clash of lacquer art in modern society of China, its abuse in development and its reasons of decline. Finally, the paper proposes the relative strategies on basis of reasons, which is expected to benefit lacquer art of China.
