On The Manipulation Of Intention In Translating Process From The Perspective Of Cognitive Psychology

The research of translation theory develops through the period of studying translation from linguistic perspective and from literary perspective. Both schools have their points, but they never attach much importance to the translator. As for the study of translation process, we can not ignore the presence of the process-operator—translator, we should study the factors that influence the translator during the process. Translation is a psycho-cognitive process, in which the translator is influenced by intention. So, studies on translating process has to analyze intention—the important factor that manipulates translating process.This thesis concentrates on the intention factor that influences the translator from the perspective of psycho-cognitive translation theory. The source language author has his own intention on the creature, while the translator also has his intention or the publisher's intention. During the translation process, the intentions will act on translating. If the two contradict to each other, how could they coordinate? The research has several purposes: first, the author exercises further study on the manipulation of intention in translation from the perspective of psychological translation theory and verify its act. Secondly, the author analyzes the strategies that the translator assumes in different situations. Last, the author will bring forward some related questions and shed light on them.First, after the review of the current research situations, this thesis discusses translation as a psycho-cognitive information process and information processing phases (translating process).Then the author discusses the manipulation of intention and how they are analyzed and realized. From the perspective of psychological translation theory, translation is divided into three phases: pre-translation phase, during-translation phase (understanding stage and expression stage) and post-translation phase. This part is to discuss the theoretical base and discuss the manipulation of intention in respective phases. This kind of research is rare and leaves much space for us to discuss. The third part is to discuss the strategies that the translator assumes to realize the SL author's intention or to coordinate their intentions in The Spirit of the Chinese People. The thesis is concluded with the schematic description of the intention process and related translation strategies. In addition, the limitations of the present study are pointed out.
