Psychedelic Rock: Music Characteristics And Social Meanings

This thesis is on Psychedelic Rock which is one of the most important rock music styles in the history. Not only as a significant music, Psychedelic Rock is also the interpreter of the society and culture of that time.There are five chapters:In the first chapter, it is firstly a summary of the literature which gave a kind of definition of Psychedelic Rock. This is the basic of the whole thesis.Second chapter talks about the sound of the audio specific characteristics of Psychedelic Rock. The structure of the Psychedelic Rock works is the main topic in the chapter three. It includes longitudinal and transverse direction of the music development.The fourth chapter is a study of Psychedelic Rock live shows. It lists some of the very new act in the rock concert of that time.Chapter Five is about the background of the society and especially the Hippie Culture Movement during the 1960s. Then, from the perspective of culture, do the interpretation of Psychedelic Rock again.In the Conclusion Part, all the prior characteristics were listed.To sum up, Psychedelic Rock is not only a very original style, but also a kind of very special express way of the culture. Although there were some scum in it, Psychedelic Rock still has the responsibility of the society and culture, and does lots of influences to people all the time.
