On The Study Of Takemitsu Toru's Background Music Of Movie

The research object of this paper is the incidental music created by one of the important composers in Japan in the 20th century, Toru Takemitsu(1930-1996).The creation of incidental music goes through his whole music career and his incidental music not only brings him high reputation in the world, but also sets up a solid foundation of abundant materials and imaginations for his other musical works and is really the part of his musical creation we can't neglect. Toru Takemitsu could always bring the audience greatness outside screen no matter he adopted western music as incidental music at first, or later he started to pay attention to traditional Japanese music and culture and made his creation by Japanese way under the influence of John Cage, an American composer. This kind of greatness not just exists in sound effect, but also is the residual shadow in the heart of audience flowing from sound effect. On the other aspect, the music and sound materials he uses in the creation of incidental music becomes the material sources of his other musical works. This indicates that incidental music has profound effect on Toru Takemitsu.Though the overseas research on the creations of Toru Takemitsu has made great achievements, especially on general style, characteristics of thought and analysis of his works, there are not many studies on his incidental music; though most of literatures and papers have mentioned it, they don't go into the depth, especially that the works which summarize the theories of Toru Takemitsu's incidental music from the angles of musicology are even less. Therefore, author of this paper intended to make a primary summary of the theories of Toru Takemitsu's incidental music basic on the analysis of his incidental music (from musical materials, texture and rhythm of incidental music) hoping to provide some reference to the development of Chinese modern incidental music. Besides, author will touched upon the development of some modern Japanese incidental music and explore the influence of western music on Japan and the achievements of Japanese composers from selective absorption.This paper consists of introduction, three chapters and conclusion. The introduction introduces the research objective of this paper and previous achievements;chapter one mainly illuminates related concepts of modern incidental music and describes the history of Japanese film in modern times; chapter two starts with the analysis of the incidental music in two films—"Kwaidan" and "Ran" and concludes the relationship between incidental music and other musical works of Toru Takemitsu; chapter three will summarize the main theories of Toru Takemitsu's incidental music;at last,the final conclusion summarizes the main characteristics of Toru Takemitsu's incidental music.
