Harry Potter, written by J.K. Rowling's, plays an important role in contemporary magic novel. Over the past ten years, the researches on Harry Potter have begun to take shape and have shown the trend of diversification. But it is still needed to explore the narrative aspect of Harry Potter, especially the aspect of narrative space. Based on the theory of narrative space and related theories, the thesis studies the narrative space of Harry Potter systematically, expecting to expand the research view of the fiction series and provide new topics for theories of narrative space. The paper is composed of introduction, main body and conclusion. In introduction, the author reviews the domestic and international studies on Harry Potter, identifies researching methods and purposes, and puts forward the problems to be solved. There are three chapters in the main body. Chapter One, basing on the text of the novel, the author discusses the spatial narrative from the aspects of spillover space, sacred space and space metaphor. In the author's opinion, space in Harry Potter is not only the essential story spot while narrating, but also is used to display time, arrange the novel structure and promote the process of narrating consciously. Chapter Two discusses spatial form of the structure of Harry Potter. The author thinks that by using spatial narrative method, Harry Potter has broken the single time order, achieved spatialization of novel forms, demonstrated"maze type"and pell-mell presented spatial narrative effect. Chapter Three, using Edward W. Soja's"Third Space epistemology", analyzes the narrative space of Harry Potter. The author thinks that the space in Harry Potter remains limitless open, creatively combining and expanding Muggle space which focuses on real physical world and magical space which is characterized as space imagination. The Third Space in Harry Potter is not only completely open and all-embracing, but also harmonious and coexistent. The conclusion sums up the whole text, emphasizes the important role of Harry Potter in contemporary magical novel and points out the continuing direction being studied.
