As an outstanding British realistic film director,Ken Loach devoted his whole life to making films reflecting social reality problems. His lens always focused on the most ordinary people in England, reflecting the living conditions of the common people in capitalist society through a series of cold realistic stories. In the era of consumerism, commercial films occupy the mainstream of the market today, there are still directors like Ken Loach, who always adhere to the principle of their own film creation, and present the living conditions of the middle and lower class people who disappeared in the mainstream vision of the public on the big screen, triggering the reflection of the audience and society.Based on the space narrative theory of film, this paper, combined with Ken Loach's film text, interprets and studies the space characteristics of his films, and points out the functions and means of space narrative of his films.Firstly, this paper divides Ken Loach's narrative space into three parts: geographical space, historical space and spiritual space, and summarizes the characteristics of these three parts.Next,it discusses the function of space narrative from the following aspects: the shaping of characters, the promotion of plot, the formation of film narrative structure and the expression of symbolic system. At the end of the paper,it focuses on the means of Ken Loach's film space narrative, including his real and natural way of lens presentation, carefully designed but not left traces of the voice, and seemingly flat plot under the strict narrative chain and so on.
