There have been a number of studies on English learning as a foreign or second language over the past few years, most of them concerned with the study of variables of attitudes, motivation and approaches. Researchers have made great efforts to explain the relationships between learning styles and language achievement in recent years. Although there is increasing interest in learning styles, little is known about the learning styles of specific cultural groups. In the research of second language acquisition, it is no doubt that there has been some achievement on learning style and cognitive style, but there are still some controversies on the definition and classification. In a certain sense, it is necessary to do some research on how Chinese learners learn English. Learning style is the relatively stable indicators of how learners acquire, store, retrieve and use information, and it has great effect on English learning. Another conception which is closely linked with learning style is learning strategies. Learning style influences the choice of learning strategies, and vice versa.Although learning style is relatively stable, by constant training of different learning strategies, learning style can be expanded or changed. This thesis is based on the precious study, but different from other researches on learning style, by comparing the differences on the Sino-US culture, teaching style and learning styles, the author focuses on studying learning styles from the cultural perspective, and trying to find out the optimal learning style for Chinese EFL students. The focus of the research is not only on learning style, but as well as on cultural point of view. In the end, from the result of experimental study, the author comes to the further discussion on how to adjust teaching styles; points out the necessity of teachers'guiding role in helping students achieve optimal learning styles. And hopefully, this research can make the foreign language teachers realize the necessity of making proper adjustment when adopt the trending teaching method. This experiment is an exploratory study which gives the overall support in theoretical assumptions. Hope this study reminds foreign-language teachers to be aware of the cultural aspects in English learning styles and the significance of helping learners understand learning style and cultivate the optimal language learning styles under the specific Chinese culture background so as to enhance the learning efficiency. However, as a pilot study limited by the author's personal knowledge and the objective conditions concerning the empirical study, this thesis is bound to leave much room for further verification. Hopefully, endeavor in this direction are on the right track and more researchers will work to fill in the gaps of in our knowledge.
