Audiences have increasingly accepted movies made in a major comprehensive art contemporary style. A movie can be divided into two parts:sound and pictures, and sound is an essential part. The human voice, sound effects and music are three major components in sound. And this thesis will focus on movie sound effects, which plays a very important role in movies; this thesis will discuss its functions and how to achieve the best result. Visual effects enhances our visual experience, the same goes for sound effects in which it's used to enhance our audio experience.Movie sound grabs the attention of audiences psychologically. It adds realism to the picture and strengthens the hypothetical of a movie at an aesthetic level. Meanwhile, with the advances in recording technology, sound production provides a greater narrative possibility for movies. Imaging doesn't only mean images. Sound not only guides the images, it is also a part of the process.The fundamental characteristic of the sound is comparing authenticity with the hypothetical. In regards to authenticity, it is required to restore the realistic sound that already existed in the objective picture and storyline for the pursuit of true art. The hypothetical and authenticity of sound are not an antagonistic contradiction, the mutual relationship between the two may show the interaction in its recording and the interactive relationship between them, including emotional and rational, subjective and objective, to restore and second creation. Second creation (article recreation) is the successful implementation that leads authenticity out of hypothetical through recording; the Typical recording creation uses the limited to express the infinite through technical means. Art is created by making subject and object unite, is the sound form that unites subject and object. The restoration of sound is also reflected in how an engineer sees the outside environment, it is rooted in personal observation of the objective world and the result is to turn objective factors into subjective factors. And the second creation is to express one engineer's subjective feelings, thoughts and ideas through technical means. This is a process to turn the subjective element into objective externalization.This thesis will combine theory and examples, analysis and demonstrations regarding movie sound effects for movie narrative and emotional expression, and then from the technical and aesthetic level, describe the process of making sound effects and the means of achieving true expression.
