| According to the origin of 'labor', its basic mean is hard and tired. The tight connection between 'labor' and commodity had been made till the commodity economy was growing up. As sç±±eans to measure how hard and tired we are when working, labor intensity should be an important attribute of labor, and we couldn't study labor without labor intensity. The labor intensity theory should be an indispensable part of the theory of labor.The change of labor intensity will affect many economic variables, such as output, income, profit, and wage. As to the macro economy, average labor intensity is an important factor affecting economic growth. As to the micro economy, the labor intensity management can be a new tool of the business management. As single person is concerned, labor intensity can not only affect personal income, but also affect one's welfare and happiness directly. A reasonable arrangement of personal labor intensity can bring a balance among goods consumption, physical and mental health, and happiness, which is a main part of the personal welfare maximization. So, studying labor intensity has much significance to economic theory and practice.Recent economic theory is very lacking on the study of labor intensity. Since Marx gave much emphasis on labor intensity in The Capital, Marxist political economy has got few development on this subject. In socialistic countries, the study methods on labor intensity followed Marx' tradition, paying more attention on the relation of labor intensity and exploit. Under such tradition, labor intensity theory has had little change, and the theory made little affection on the practice of socialistic economy.Occidental economics lower the status of laborer, and ignore the study on labor. Western economists consider labor as simple as capital and land. So, wecan't found a detailed theory of labor intensity in their economic theories. Although occidental economics gave labor intensity away, some other sciences gained many achievements on labor intensity study. Such condition makes economics embarrassed.Concerning the economies' lack of the labor intensity study, this paper try to study labor intensity on several main thesis, in order to call for more attention on it.The shortage of suitable method is a main reason why economics lacked on labor intensity study. So, found the suitable method is the first task when we study labor intensity. As an essential method on labor study, the theory of duplicate property of labor is a very breakthrough of Marx on economic methodology. This method is the main and basic tool to analyze labor intensity in this paper. According to the duplicate property of labor, I classified labor factors in detail. By such classification, the relation of labor intensity and other labor factors can be much clear, and the position of the labor intensity theory in the labor theory can be found easier.In the concrete aspect of labor, the factor about the purpose of labor is labor product, and the factors about the way of labor are labor material, labor organization, and labor surroundings. As to the abstract aspect of labor, we need only two factors, labor time and labor intensity, to confine labor. The factors of labor have wide and tight relations each other. We can found the labor intensity's extension (some appearance of labor intensity which can be detect through other labor factors) by research how labor intensity affects other factors. On the contrary, we can also found what make labor intensity changed by research how other factors affect labor intensity, and so, we may control and manage labor intensity.The often-used methods to measure labor intensity are those that measurethrough the extension of labor intensity. But the intension of labor intensity ismore important than it's extension. The extension just reflects the intension.
