In the past 20 years, closing down, stopping doing business, merger, changing production and even bankruptcy among enterprises have been increasing year by year. Although those failed enterprises were different from each other in the systems, surviving environment and failed reasons, the major failed reason is almost inexpedient strategic decisions. In view of this, we should not only take an active part in absorbing advanced experience of foreign business management, which can help to make foreign things serve China, but also exert the influence and role of our excellent traditional Chinese thought and culture in business management, which can help to make the past serve the present.Guanzi's management philosophy has an indispensable reference to modern business management. Mr. Feng You-lan, the famous philosopher pointed out, the thought [Guanzi represented] "has a rather complete philosophical system... lays a foundation of materialism in Chinese philosophy... is rich in spontaneous dialectics...was innovatory and progressive in politics... applied to a state's administration, became the doctrines of a state's administration," and is management philosophy with brilliant accomplishments that "all other emperors were required to attend meetings for nine times and then controlled by Qi Emperor."The thesis applies Guanzi's management philosophy to strategic decisions management of modern enterprises.Above all, the thesis makes preliminary inquiries into Guanzi's basic philosophy so as to understand its formation and characteristics. The thesis lays emphasis on the application of Guanzi's management philosophy to strategic decision management of modern enterprises from the following two aspects:The first aspect is to study the guiding ideology for strategic decisions management with Guanzi's theory of universal entirety.Guanzi's theory of universal entirety expounds that strategic decisions are a sense of system, survival and initiative, which is explored deeply in the thesis.Next, the thesis analyses synthetic cases of a group of failed enterprises, especially Giant Group typical of Chinese market economy which went dramatically from one extreme of a tragedy to the other extreme of a comedy. At the same time similarities among successful enterprises are concluded, too. All the enterprises, both successful and unsuccessful, indicate a principle that market competition power of an enterprise mainly lies in the ability of its strategic decisions. In other words, if an enterprise's strategic decisions conform to the theory of universal entirety, the enterprise will succeed; otherwise it will fail.Further, the thesis expounds that Guanzi's theory of universal entirety has four indispensable characteristics in common with the guiding ideology for strategic decisions of an enterprise, namely overall, antagonistic, adaptive and long-term.The second aspect is to apply Guanzi's theory of eight points to investigations for strategic environment of an enterprise. The thesis expounds that Guanzi's theory of eight points is an ideological banner of investigations for strategic environment and the foundation of epistemology for strategic decisions , and also states its basic content, methodology, ideology and significance. The thesis dissects a typical case of AIDO' VCD in Guangdong in particular, and reveals the extreme importance of investigations for strategic environment. Further, it states the realistic meaning of Guanzi's theory of eight points to an enterprise's strategic environment. Finally, the thesis expounds the significance of a strategist's qualities and moral to strategical decisions of an enterprise.
