The relationship between Science Culture and Humanity Culture is the hot spot of the area of philosophy of science and technology and culture studies. Many scholars argue this question within the scope of uniting and merging the two cultures. However, in order to unite and merge the two cultures, we must at first find the reasons why they divide. And this paper is just a study on the reasons.Firstly, it discusses the basic connotations of Culture, Science Culture and Humanity Culture, points out that the two cultures divide, and thinks that the division between them is a complex question. The complexity lies not only in that there are complex forms of expression of the division, but also in that there are multi-level causes which create the division.Secondly, it argues that the reasons can be divided into two kinds: internal reasons and external reasons. The internal reasons are as follows: different structures of the two cultures, revolution of thinking, and view of value. The external reasons include: industrial mode of production, Capitalist System and market economy, and specialization-oriented education and division of labor.Thirdly, it draws up a blueprint of the unity and merging of the two cultures and puts forward some suggestions about how to realize the plan.Lastly, it calls that China should promote science spirit and enhance people's knowledge of science.
