Objective A genetic population study on nine short tandem repeat (STR) loci (D3S1358 VWA FGA, D8S1179, D21S11, D18S5K D5S818 D13S317andD7S820 ) was performed on 100 unrelated individuals in Tibet, China . The objection is to investigate the population data on this race and to evaluate their validation to the forensic application. The DNA was extracted with the chelex and multiplexing of 9 STR loci by PCR. Separation and detection of the amplified STR fragment was carried out by capillary electrophoresis on an ABI Prism 310 genetic analyzer. Alleles were designated by the software GenescanS.l and compared to allelic ladders that were run with each sample set. The number of alleles and genotypes of D3S1358 ,VWA, FGA, D8S1179, D21S11, D18S51, D5S818, D7S820, D13S317 were 6,8,14,8,12,18,8,9,8and 13,19,38,26,36,50,19,19,23 respectively . All loci meet Hardy-Weinberg expectations. The combined Power of discrimination for the nine STR loci is greater than 0.999999999996. The results demonstrate that these 9 STR loci would be very useful for either paternity testing or personal identification for the forensic biological sample in Kangba population in Tibet ,China .
