Research Of Genetically Modified Food Labeling System

Since the emergence of transgenic technology, it is highly controversial. Somepeople think it is an angel, while others regard it as a devil. Science and technology is adouble-edged sword,it brings achievements to human, at the same time it has potentialrisk. As to the genetically modified food safety problem, science can not give a clearanswer. Countries have different attitudes and administration ways to this problem, theyset up their own administration systems. The labeling system is an importantmanagement content of genetically modified food, by labeling to ensure the safety rightof the consumers and their right to know. In2002, our country initially established theGM food labeling system, compared with the developed country, our system has manyshortcomings. This paper refers to others countries’experience, basing on our conditions,then makes suggestions to perfect it.This paper is divided into five chapters. Chapter One briefly describes the concept,classification, background of GM food labeling system and function, which can protectthe right of consumer. The second part introduces three kinds of labeling systems inEuropean Union, the United States and China. Chapter Three introduces the presentsituation of our system and the exiting problems. Chapter Four makes suggestion onimproving the legal system of the GM food labeling. The last Chapter is a summary ofthis paper.
