With the terrible incident taking place in America on September 11, 2001, the term "East-Turkestan", which is related with Xinjiang of China is appeared through media. We can see through the appearance to the essence. In fact, East-Turkestan is ethnic splittism, which has been existing for a long time in the history of Xinjiang. Though it has a new appearance now, its essence hasn't been changed. In order to analyse East-Turkestan's cause and effect comprehensively from ancient times to now and from theory to reality, the question to be discussed will be studied from three aspects in the dissertation: Firstly, give definations to several important concepts. In order to split China, ethnic splittists confuse ancient Turks with the people whose languages are the same as ancient Turks', but they are not the same ethnic group. There is a world of difference between the two. Splittists give political meaning to Turkestan, which is the name as where ancient Turks had been living in. They use East-Turkestan to replace Xinjiang. Their purpose is to split Xinjiang from China and set up a new state political power named East-Turkestan. In order to get to the aim, ethnic splittists flaunt the banner of Nation and their activities are under the signboard of Religion. They create dissensions by violent and terrible means, so they are called East-Turkestan Tenorism. As concept, East-Turkestan has political nature. Secondly, track back to the history of East-Turkestan's evolution. Its advocacy is to disrupt China fromessence. As practical activities, they are based on the theories, such as Pan-Islamism and Pan-Turkism, which are evolved into ethnic splittism in China, whose core is East-Turkestan Ideology; religious extremism, violent terrorism and the misrepresented theory of national self-determination rights. Next, analyses the history of East-Turkestan's practical activities. According to its different laying particular emphasis on in practical activities, it can be divided into four historical periods. The foothold is to solve problems in reality. At last, the dissertation analyses reality from four aspects: the features of East-Turkestan's activities, its dangers, the reasons of why it escalates and some suggestions and counter-measures on how to solve it.
